WhatWeDo

West Lothian RDA is one of around 500 groups across the UK who provide therapeutic riding sessions for adults and young people with physical and/or learning difficulties.  We provide therapy, fitness, skills development and opportunities for achievement.  The simple pleasure of working with horses is the cornerstone of all RDA’s activities. From that starting point  everything else follows be that freedom of movement, gaining confidence, building relationships, receiving life-enhancing therapy or achieving individual goals. Participants benefit from improvements in muscle strength, balance, motor skills in an outdoor environment.

We have a very inclusive environment and our coaches understand the individual needs of our participants.  RDA groups tend to be different to riding schools and are setup to accommodate participants of all abilities. In a typical session, in addition to the coach, there is someone who leads the horse and up to 2 side walkers depending on the participants needs. Each team is there to support the participant to achieve their individual goals.

Our season runs from April to October each year as we only have an outdoor area. In 2022 we ran 8 sessions each week which last 30 minutes each. Our aim is for this session to be the best 30 minutes of the week! We are a member of the National Riding for the Disabled Association and are an independent charity which is regulated by OSCR.
